When something is so good, you can’t wait to share it, right? That’s how Khasm Labs felt about their recent podcast episode of Innovation Unplugged with aiOla’s CEO and Founder Amir Haramaty.
Host Jim Brisimitzis chatted with Amir about the journey of aiOla from inception to becoming an industry leader in the AI space. What exactly sets aiOla apart? What do businesses stand to gain? How does aiOla’s unique perspective and vision shape its powerful technology and ability to overcome any industry’s biggest challenges?
We’re here to recap the most outstanding tidbits of information from the 30- minute conversation. To dive deeper, give the episode a listen on Spotify, Apple, or YouTube.
Key Takeaways
The Starting Point
Amir Haramaty is no stranger to creation– he defines himself as a “Serial Problem Solver.” With five startups under his belt, he has spent the last decade working in the field of AI. His experience with one of the largest management consulting firms led him to conversations with Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 companies that ultimately paved the path to aiOla to solve major business challenges.
The aiOla Approach
aiOla has plenty of conversations with companies that are 100+ years old. Clearly, these businesses aren’t doing things wrong, but rather they are doing very much right. aiOla’s approach is to ask, “How can we help you?” rather than replace or reconfigure existing processes.
aiOla’s technology is inherently unique as it is the first to combine natural language processing and automatic speech recognition. Yet, while the technology in itself is innately impressive, Amir shares that his vision remains centered on impact (ability to quantify ROI) and people.
aiOla is all about enhancing companies’ ability to operate more efficiently, safely, and collaboratively. However, he makes critical mention that as incredible as artificial intelligence (AI) is, “it’s just a tool.”
What’s The Real Challenge? And Solution?
The biggest challenge remains to be data. As Amir shares, the majority of data remains uncaptured and unstructured. By focusing on data, aiOla is able to deliver practical results by augmenting processes, instead of disrupting them.
Since speech is the most natural and effective mode of communication, aiOla has centered its technology on capturing speech-driven data. But before it was able to do so, obstacles had to be overcome. There are several hurdles of being able to accurately capture speech data, namely: accents, languages, background noise, and business-specific vocabulary.
aiOla stands out because it’s the first-of-its-kind Conversational AI solution that can understand business-specific jargon, in any accent, acoustic environment, and over 120 languages.
The vision started with a challenge to create a solution that could master 1. Accuracy
And 2. Keyword spotting technology to extract only the relevant words from conversations. With the leadership of Chief Scientist Joseph Keshet, aiOla built its first ASRU platform , combining natural language understanding (NLU) and automatic speech recognition (ASR) into a single platform.
The result is that aiOla is natural to its users and functions according to their business-specific jargon. No one has to change how they work; instead aiOla adapts to fit the employees’ and business’ specifications. It’s an entire paradigm shift on how most technology is designed.
The Impact: “Better than French Toast or French Fries”
Amir shares his very own, what he calls “dumb joke.” The idea is: “We have a French chef, French ingredients, and a French kitchen- but, we must do better than French toast or French fries.”
This thinking shaped how aiOla was able to create a language model that adapts to every business’ need. Rather than wondering how much data would be needed to generate a language model, Amir asked if the team could start by taking an existing process from any business in any language and use it to create a dedicated language model for that specific workflow. It’s the difference between buying a bag big enough to fit a gift versus wrapping paper around the gift to fit its exact size.
As if that wasn’t an ask already, he opted to get it done in less than 2 hours.
Guess what happened?
aiOla’s team successfully created a language model in even less time that generates 95%+ accuracy. The technology is also usable on any Android, iOS device, and integrates with any existing system. It’s called Jargonic, and it’s aiOla’s interactive application. (Note: Businesses can also choose to use aiOla-as-a-Service through its API offering).
A Different Take on “Focus”
Amir also shares that he mentors many startup founders, and a big lesson he talks about is, “Focus, focus, focus.”
Yet, the irony is that aiOla isn’t laser-focused. The company has flipped the script by creating a horizontal platform. This means that aiOla’s technology can service every business because its centered around impact, as opposed to solving a single challenge in a single industry.
Spoiler Alert: Teasing What’s Next
Amir also dropped the big announcement that aiOla has finalized one of the world’s largest airlines as its client and even more excitingly, as a strategic investor. We’re excited to share more details on this soon enough!
The Bottom Line
In everything aiOla does and will continue to do, three elements are weaved throughout all of its leaders’ actions and decisions, namely a dedication to:
- Practical AI
- People
- And better data for demonstrable impact
